Gangnam vs. Hongdae vs. Sinchon: Which Area Should You Book Your Clinic In?

Just a heads up — I'm not a doctor or medical professional. Everything I share here is based on my own personal experiences, research, and things I've come across on YouTube and social media that resonated with me. Please always consult a qualified medical professional before making any decisions about treatments or procedures. 😊

Everyone says "go to Gangnam" — but is it actually the best area for every type of procedure? I looked into it.

Everyone says "go to Gangnam" — it's practically the first thing that comes up when you search for plastic surgery in Korea. And honestly, for a lot of procedures, Gangnam-gu really is the center of it all. But it's not the only option, and depending on what you're looking for, it might not even be the best one.

Gangnam-gu: The big leagues

Gangnam — specifically the area around Apgujeong and Sinsa — is where the highest concentration of specialized plastic surgery clinics is. If you're looking for rhinoplasty, jaw contouring, or any kind of major facial surgery, this is where the most experienced surgeons tend to be. The clinics here are also the most accustomed to international patients, which means more English-speaking staff and more experience navigating the logistics of medical tourism.

The tradeoff: it's expensive, and the consultation experience can feel a bit assembly-line at the larger clinics. You're not always getting a lot of one-on-one time.

Hongdae & Sinchon: The skincare sweet spot

If you're looking for dermatology treatments — laser, Rejuran, Thermage, fillers — the Hongdae and Sinchon areas have a lot of excellent options that are slightly less tourist-focused and often more affordable. The vibe is younger and more relaxed, and some of the clinics here are genuinely excellent for skin treatments even if they're not as famous internationally.

The tradeoff: fewer English speakers, and you'll want to do more research before booking.

Itaewon & Yongsan: The international-friendly zone

A smaller number of clinics near Itaewon specifically cater to expats and long-term foreign residents. These tend to have the most English fluency and the most experience with patients who aren't just passing through for a week. If you're nervous about communication, this area is worth considering.

How to filter by area on KBeauty Finder

On KBeauty Finder, you can filter clinics by district (Gangnam-gu, Mapo-gu, Yongsan-gu, etc.) and combine that with filters for English support, procedure type, and safety features like CCTV. It's a much faster way to build a shortlist than scrolling through individual clinic websites.

My honest take: for major surgery, start in Gangnam. For skin treatments, explore a bit more. And wherever you go, check the safety filters first.
